Covid vaccination halted as Faridpur runs out of jabs

Locals complain of unnecessary suffering after having to return without getting the vaccine

Update : 09 Aug 2021, 04:40 PM

Faridpur has halted the inoculation program as the district has run out of covid-19 vaccines.

Three vaccination centres at Faridpur Sadar stopped giving the shots since Sunday afternoon, the district's Civil Surgeon Md Siddiqur Rahman said.

He added that the vaccine stock at the civil surgeon’s office also ran out and they have written to the Directorate General of Health Services in Dhaka for more vaccines.

According to him, residents of Nagarkanda and Madhukhali upazila were able to receive jabs on Monday but will run out by Tuesday, while the rest of the six upazilas also ran out.

Officials said the vaccination program will only resume after receiving the next lot from the authorities concerned.

Meanwhile, people queuing up for their jabs are irate at the situation, complaining about unnecessary suffering.

“What’s the point of sending us the message when there is no vaccine?” complained Shamin Hossain, 32, who had to return without the jab.

According to Faridpur Police Lines Hospital, they ran out after vaccinating 600 people on Sunday.

Siddiqur Rahman said that they had received 229,120 doses of the Oxford-AztraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines.

He added those who got the message but not the vaccine will get the jab when their stock is replenished again.
