As many as 1,318 people have died due to the coronavirus in the 10 districts of Khulna in July, putting the southwestern division on top to record the highest number of deaths in a month.
Moreover, another 36,015 people have tested positive for the virus, according to the divisional health services data.
On July 9, single-day deaths hit a record high of 71 in the division while a record 1,900 daily new infections were reported on July 7.

According to Khulna’s Civil Surgeon Dr Niaz Mohammad, reluctance to wear masks and following health guidelines has led to the rapid spread of the highly infectious Delta variant, first identified in India.
A total of 92,932 people have tested positive and 2,388 have died in Khulna Division since the beginning of the pandemic.
