Mugger kills grocer in broad daylight in Sreepur

Local express concern over four murder incidents since Eid

A suspected mugger killed a grocer by slitting his throat in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila on Wednesday.

Locals nabbed the killer, Rubel, 30, and handed him over to the police, confirmed Sreepur police station Inspector Mahfuz Imtiaz Bhuiyan.

The incident happened in Masterbari area of Sreepur around 11:30am.

The deceased is Mokhlesur Rahman, 32, who hails from Mymensingh’s Bhaluka upazila. He used to run a grocery shop and was a bKash agent in Masterbari’s Jahnagir Super Market.

Rubel is the son of Shamsul Huq from Noikati Lebubuli area in Jhalakathi’s Rajapur upazila. He came to Mastarbari to visit a relative’s house recently.

According to police, Rubel went to the shop in the morning and started taking money from the cash box. When Mokhlesur resisted the move, Rubel stabbed him and slit his throat.

Locals rushed to the spot hearing Mokhlesur’s scream and caught him.

The body was sent to Gazipur’s Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College morgue for an autopsy.

Locals have expressed concern over the murder of the grocer and three others, and attack on journalists in Sreepur since Eid, and urged the administration to increase security.

The three other persons who died in separate attacks in Sreepur are a farmer, a student leader and a small trader.
