An man has died at a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar in what is being described as a gunfight by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), who claim the victim was a robber
The deceased, identified as Karim alias Kalimullah, 32, was a resident of the Lambashia Rohingya refugee camp.
Karim – leader of the Kalimullah group – was killed in a shootout with law enforcers in the Lambashia camp on early Monday, said Squadron Leader Tanvir Hasan, deputy commander of RAB-15, to Dhaka Tribune.
The elite police unit said it recovered firearms and bullets from the scene of the shootout.

“Acting on a tip-off, we raided the Kutupalong camp area early Monday. We had intel that a group of Rohingyas was preparing for a robbery.
“At one point, sensing our presence, the robbers opened fire at us. The gang fled the scene when we retaliated,” the RAB official added.
After the shootout ended, Kalimullah’s was found dead at the spot, according to the senior RAB officer.
