Police say a local ward councillor reportedly committed the murder
A cattle trader was shot dead allegedly by a local ward councillor for refusing to pay protection money in Feni's Sultanpur area on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Shahjalal, 27, son of Abdul Jabbar of Saguli village under Karimganj in Kishoreganj district.
Police said Shahjalal had parked a truck loaded with 15 cows in front of his house for sale. When local councillor Abul Kalam demanded protection money, he flatly refused to pay.
Later Abul and three of his associates held Shahjalal hostage before allegedly killing him and dumping the body in a nearby pond.
Cops subsequently recovered the body and sent it to the Feni General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Feni Model police station Inspector Nizam Uddin said that they have launched a probe. "One person, named Sagar, has been arrested in connection with the murder," he said.
