The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.03% in Rangpur division
The number of Covid-19 cases has speedily crossed the 35,000 mark in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate started showing a little declining trend during the last 24 hours.
Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases rapidly climbed to 35,033 as 511 new patients were reported positive after testing 1,963 collected samples resulting in a positive rate of 26.03% on Wednesday in Rangpur.
“A total of 14,477 positive cases, the highest number in a month from June 14 last to July 14 since the outbreak of the pandemic, were reported in the division,” said the Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui.
The district-wise break up of total 35,033 patients is 7,621 patients in Rangpur, 1,804 in Panchagarh, 2,649 in Nilphamari, 1,911 in Lalmonirhat, 2,514 in Kurigram, 4,944 in Thakurgaon, 10,709 in Dinajpur and 2,881 in Gaibandha of the division.
Meanwhile, 12 more patients from Rangpur, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh died during the last 24 hours Thursday morning raising the number of casualties to 711 in Rangpur.
“Some 282 Covid-19 patients, the highest number in a month from June 14 last to July 14 since the beginning of the pandemic, died in the division,” said Dr Siddiqui.
The district-wise break up of the 711 fatalities stands at 142 in Rangpur, 236 in Dinajpur, 134 in Thakurgaon, 50 in Nilphamari, 38 in Kurigram, 34 in Panchagarh, 34 in Gaibandha and 43 in Lalmonirhat districts of Rangpur.

Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said a total of 182,781 collected samples were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 35,033 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.17% in Rangpur division.
Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 25,354 with recovery of 433 more infected patients on Wednesday in Rangpur division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 72.37%
“The average recovery rate of Covid-19 infected patients was 97.55% more than four months ago on March 9 last in the division where the same sharply dropped by 25.18% during the period to 72.37% on Wednesday,” Dr Islam said.
The 25,354 recovered patients include 5,656 of Rangpur, 954 of Panchagarh, 1,919 of Nilphamari, 1,362 of Lalmonirhat, 1,765 of Kurigram, 3,293 of Thakurgaon, 8,442 of Dinajpur and 1,963 of Gaibandha districts in the division.
Among the 35,033 infected patients, 648 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 26 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 25,354 patients and 711 deaths while 8,780 are remaining in home isolation.
“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 658,125 and among them, 389,354 got the second dose of the jab till Wednesday in the division,” Dr Islam added.
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu asked all for strictly abiding by the health directives to contain further spread of the Covid-19 virus.
