He was arrested from Pabna early Friday
A Rajshahi court has placed Rajshahi’s Arani municipality Mayor Muktar Ali on four-day remand in an arms case.
Rajshahi Judicial Magistrate Saiful Islam passed the order on Friday evening after police produced him before the court with a seven-day remand plea.
Rajshahi's Additional Superintendent of Police Iftekhar Alam confirmed the matter, saying that Muktar Ali would be taken to police custody on Saturday morning for questioning.
Earlier in the day, police arrested Muktar Ali from Pabna’s Pakshi area.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Detective Branch of Rajshahi police arrested the mayor, who had been on the run since Tuesday, from his relative’s house in Pabna around 5am.
Police carried out a search at Muktar’s house in Arani following his arrest, and seized four bottles of phensedyl, 100 grams of cannabis, a locally-made sharp weapon and Tk1.32 lakh in cash from there.
On Wednesday, police raided Muktar’s house and seized four firearms, 43 bullets, some drugs and around Tk1 crore in cash.

During a press briefing at the Rajshahi Superintendent of Police's office on Wednesday, SP ABM Masud Hossain said that Muktar and his aides went to an adjacent drug store of an assistant professor named Majnu in a drunken state on Tuesday night and started a commotion.
Majnu went inside the house out of fear, but the mayor and his associates entered the house and started beating him. When Majnu’s son and wife came to save him, the mayor beat up and injured them as well.
SP Masud further said Majnu had worked against the mayor in the last municipal elections in favour of the boat symbol.
Majnu filed a case later that night against Mayor Muktar, Angur, 32, and three to four other unidentified persons with Bagha police station.
