Pabna man hacked to death, relatives set fire to alleged killer’s house

They had previous disputes, said locals

A man was hacked to death in Dogachi union of Pabna Sadar upazila on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Sumon Pramanik, 37, from Dokkhin Ramchandra village in Dogachi union.

Following the incident, Sumon’s relatives set fire to the house of the alleged attacker Mithu Hossain, who is also Sumon’s neighbour.

According to locals, Sumon had disputes with Mithu regarding a past tussle. At around 1pm on Saturday, Suman was heading home after parking his motorcycle in the alley when he met Mithu and a few of his associates, including his twin brother Titu.

They got into a heated argument, at one point of which Sumon was hacked to death. He died on the spot, reports a Pabna correspondent, quoting locals.

After the incident, Sumon’s relatives set fire to Mithu's house which was later put out by a group of Pabna firefighters.

Additional Superintendent of Pabna Police Masud Alam said that the police had recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy. 

Police are trying to investigate the matter and arrest those involved. It is primarily assumed that this incident took place due to previous enmity, he added.
