Hospital authorities, however, said the patients had comorbid conditions
At least seven people died in the 24 hours to Friday morning at the Covid unit of Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogra, which is experiencing a shortage of equipment related to oxygen supply.
“There is a shortage of high flow nasal cannula, but the patients died due to having some other complications like diabetes,” said Superintendent Dr Nuruzzaman of the hospital.
He said they have written to the Health Ministry requesting more allotment for high flow nasal cannula.
The Covid dedicated hospital has the capacity to provide treatment to 200 patients. However, there were 223 patients undergoing treatment till 8am on Friday, with 10 in critical conditions.
The hospital authorities are struggling to provide treatment to such a high number of patients.
Bogra’s Civil Surgeon Gausul Azim Chowdhury said a total of 11 people died in the 24 hours to Friday afternoon in the district. Another 100 people tested positive over the period.
