People are not allowed to leave homes without emergency reasons during the 7-day strict lockdown
Police in Chittagong have detained at least 21 people for breaching pandemic rules on Thursday, when Bangladesh went to a strict lockdown ordering people to not step outside except for emergencies.
As many as five vehicles were seized and cases were filed against owners of 10 other vehicles for breaking the lockdown rules, during a drive at the Agrabad area in the port city.
“Five patrol teams have been deployed in the area along with a check-post, to enforce the lockdown,” said OC Mohammad Mohsin of the local Double Mooring police station.
The police have been assisting people who are out in an emergency to reach their destinations, he said.
“Some 21 people have been detained so far who left their homes without a valid reason. Five vehicles were seized and cases were filed against owners of 10 others,” said OC Mohsin.
On the first day of the seven-day strict lockdown, Additional Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Sana Shamimur Rahman visited the Agrabad area. Deputy Commissioner (West) Abdul Warish, AC Double Mooring Mahmudul Hasan Mamun and others were present during the visit.
