Nine more Covid-19 patients died while the positivity rate crossed the 41% mark on Thursday in the division amid a hastily rising infections and declination of recovery rate.
Health officials said the nine deaths were reported from Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur raising the fatalities to 483 in the division where the death rate remains above the 2% mark during recent weeks.
“Some 101 patients died from May 24 to June 24, the highest number in a month since the outbreak of the pandemic,” Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui said.
The district-wise break-up of the 483 fatalities stands at 108 in Rangpur, 175 in Dinajpur, 69 in Thakurgaon, 38 in Nilphamari, 27 in Kurigram, 22 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 21 in Lalmonirhat districts.
“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.03% in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases speedily climbed to 23,798 as 336 more patients were found after testing 805 samples with the positivity rate of 41.74%, the highest ever in case of daily infection rate, on Thursday in the division.
“The district-wise break up of total 23,798 patients stands at 5,517 in Rangpur, 960 in Panchagarh, 1,753 in Nilphamari, 1,331 in Lalmonirhat, 1,570 in Kurigram, 2,821 in Thakurgaon, 7,895 in Dinajpur and 1,951 in Gaibandha of the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.
Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 37.85% on Wednesday, 35.95% on Tuesday, 34.58 on Monday, 38.94% on Sunday, 35.20% on Saturday and 29.12% on Friday last in the division.
On Thursday, the district-wise daily positivity rates stood at 31% in Rangpur, 48% in Panchagarh, 38% in Nilphamari, 83% in Lalmonirhat, 41% in Kurigram, 48% in Thakurgaon, 39% in Dinajpur and 33% in Gaibandha.
Since the beginning, a total of 148,751 collected samples were tested till Thursday, and of them, 23,798 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 16%.
Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 19,164 with recovery of 87 more patients on Thursday in the division.
“The average recovery rate of Covid-19 infected patients was 97.55% three and a half months ago on March 9 last in the division where it sharply dropped by 17.02% to 80.53% on Thursday,” Dr Islam said.
“The 19,164 recovered patients included 4,956 of Rangpur, 827 of Panchagarh, 1,588 of Nilphamari, 1,099 of Lalmonirhat, 1,193 of Kurigram, 1,714 of Thakurgaon, 6,003 of Dinajpur and 1,784 of Gaibandha districts,” he said.
Among the 23,798 infected patients, 277 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 23 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 19,164 patients and 483 deaths while 4,080 are remaining in home isolation.
“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 5,99,776 and among them, 3,88,375 got the second dose of the jab till Thursday in the division,” Dr Islam added.
