The strict Covid-19 lockdown across Dinajpur district, amid nationwide restrictions on public movement and gathering already in place, has been extended for another in light of a surge in cases and deaths.
The district recorded two more deaths and 123 new cases from 252 tested samples in the 24 hours between Sunday and Monday mornings.
The daily Covid-19 infection rate in the district now stands at 48.80%.
The lockdown will now end on June 28. Earlier, on June 15, the district administration had initiated the lockdown till June 21 midnight.
Members of the police, Border Guard Bangladesh and Ansar and VDP have been posted at seven different points of the district town to implement the public movement restrictions.
The district administration and the district health office are also monitoring.
However, many locals were seen flouting the restrictions on various pretexts. They also showed a tremendous lack of awareness and negligence in maintaining the health protocols.
