The child died on June 2 while at a government hospital, say officials
An eight-month-old child has died of the coronavirus at a state-run hospital in the northern district of Naogaon, say health officials.
The infant died on June 2 while undergoing treatment at the Sapahar Upazila Health Complex and the samples came back positive on June 9, said Deputy Civil Surgeon Monzur-e Morshed.
The child, who was suffering from diarrhoea, was brought to the hospital by her parents on May 31, said Sapahar Upazila Health Officer Ruhul Amin.
The hospital authorities collected samples after the child died on June 2 and sent to the Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, he said.
The coronavirus situation is deteriorating in Bangladesh with a number of bordering districts particularly witnessing restrictions on public movement to curb the spread of infections.
As many as 13,032 people have died of Covid-19 and 822,849 others infected until Friday since the pandemic hit the country in March last year.
