The decision comes after Rajshahi city is put under a week-long lockdown
The movement of all Rajshahi-bound passenger trains will remain suspended for three days from Friday morning.
Confirming the matter on Thursday, Bangladesh Railway Additional Director General (operations) Sardar Sahadat Ali said: “Rajshahi has been placed under lockdown due to a spike in Covid-19 infections. In line with this decision, all passenger trains from Dhaka to Rajshahi will stay suspended for three days.”
The authorities will later assess the situation and decide if the suspension needs to be extended, he added.
In light of the worsening Covid-19 situation, the local authorities have decided to impose an all-out lockdown in the Rajshahi metropolitan area for a week, starting from Friday evening.
The Rajshahi division recorded the highest number of cases — 815 — in the country during a 24-hour time frame till Thursday morning, according to the DGHS.
Twelve people died of Covid-19 or with symptoms of the disease during the same period at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital alone, reports our correspondent.
