Five workers have been injured in a fire reportedly triggered by a leak in the gas pipeline at a dyeing factory in Narayanganj.
The incident took place at the factory of Niki Dyeing Printing and Finishing Mills Ltd in Nayabari Khaspara area in Sonargaon upazila around 5am on Saturday morning.
The victims are technician Md Alam, 25, mechanic Bashir, 25, his assistant Mehedi Hasan, 25, and security guards Hemong Chakma, 22, and Nazir Miya, 20.
The burn victims were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Among the victims, Mehedi Hasan was admitted with 60% burns, followed by Bashir with 40%, Nazir with 20%, Alam 17%, and Hemong with 15%.
Inspector Bachchu Mia of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital's police outpost confirmed the information to Dhaka Tribune.
Meanwhile, Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director Md Tanharul said a leak in the pipeline might have caused gas to accumulate inside the closed factory which then resulted in the fire, triggered from an electric spark.
However, as the incident was still under investigation, details could be confirmed later, he added.
