Foyezi earlier confessed in another case filed over violence in Hathazari in late March
Jakaria Noman Foyezi, former publicity secretary of Hefazat central committee, has confessed to raping a woman for more than a year on a false promise of marrying her.
Foyezi was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate Jayanti Rani Roy on Thursday where he gave the confessional statement, court sources say. The court later sent him to jail.
On May 11, the Hefazat leader confessed to his involvement in the unrest that took place in Hathazari area of Chittagong. Detectives arrested him from Chakaria, Cox's Bazar on May 5.
According to the case, Foyezi got acquainted with the woman in September 2019 via Facebook. He rented her a house near Hathazari madrasa and they stayed together identifying themselves as husband and wife on the promise of marrying her.
The woman later left the house and went to Chittagong when Foyezi refused to marry her. But Foyezi managed to convince her again and started staying together. But he did not marry her.
She filed the case on May 6, several days after Hefazat leader Mamunul Haque was found with his so-called second wife at a Narayanganj resort.
