At least 11 people were injured in those separate incidents across the country
At least eight people were killed in separate road accidents in six districts across the country on Saturday.
In Narayanganj, 3 vegetable traders were killed and two others injured when a covered van hit a pickup van carrying the trio in Sonargaon of Narayangaj in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Kabir Hossain, Amir Hossain and Al Mamun, reports our Narayanganj correspondent Shamima Rita.
Kanchpur Highway Police Station OC Moniruzzaman said the traders met the tragic end of their lives while going to sell the vegetable at different bazars of the upazila after collecting those from Sonmandi union.
Injured two are now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In Manikganj, one person was killed while three others were injured when a truck overturned in Ghior upajila of Manikganj district in the morning, police said.
The deceased was identified as Mojibur Rahman, 55.
The accident happened on Pecharkanda Road, when the truck carrying stone chips suddenly veered off the stretch and overturned, reports UNB.
Fire and police personnel immediately rushed to the spot and sent the injured to a nearby hospital. The injured include the driver of the truck.
"Mojibur, however, died on the spot. His body has been handed over to police," Ghior fire service station officer Selim Haoladar said.
Ghior police station’s Officer-in-Charge Riaj Uddin Ahmed Biplob said the body of the deceased was handed over to his family members.
A case has been registered, he added.
In Natore, a man was killed and four others were injured as a truck smashed a passenger van at Baraigram upazila in Natore district in the morning, reports a correspondent.
Deceased Abu Hanif Pramanik, 35, was a resident of Goaldanga village under Sadar upazila in the district.
Banpara Highway Police Station officer in-charge Khandaker Shafiqul Islam said a truck hit a van in Ahmedpur area at about 10am, leaving Abu Hanif dead on the spot and four others injured.
The injured were admitted to a local hospital.
Police, however, seized the truck but its driver managed to flee the scene, he added.
In Lalmonirhat, a farmer was killed and two others were injured in a road accident at Kaliganj upazila in Lalmonirhat district in the morning, reports a correspondent.
Deceased Yasin Ali Babu, 31, was a resident of Uttar Mushrat Madati village under Bhotmari union in the upazila.
Locals said three farmers were returning home on a paddy cutter vehicle. On the way, a truck hit the vehicle, leaving them severely injured.
The injured were Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Yasin dead.
Kaliganj Police Station OC Arju Md Sajjad confirmed the matter.
In Pabna, a motorcyclist was killed when a sand laden truck the motorcycle Laksmikunda area of Ishwardi in Pana in the morning, said a correspondent.
The deceased was Imon, 18, son of Abdus Salam in Notun Ruppur area of the upazila, said Ishwardi police station OC Asaduzzaman.
In Jhenaidah, an elderly man was killed in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah district when a truck hit him in Gunjon village road in the afternoon, reports our correspondent Nayon Khandoker.
The deceased was Sudhir Bosak, 85, of the village.
SI Manzurul Islam of Kaliganj police station said the truck hit Bosak while he was going to paddy field.
Bosak died when was sent to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.
