RAB members apprehended Sayem in Sylhet on Friday afternoon
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a man in Sylhet on charges of demeaning Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on social media.
The arrested is Md Sayem Ahmed, 46, a resident of Ilabaz village under Zakiganj upazila in the district.
A team of RAB 9 apprehended Sayem in the Majortila area on the outskirts of Sylhet city on Friday afternoon, said RAB 9 spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police Obain.
The arrest was made following a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) with Zakiganj police station in the morning, he said.
A local Krishak League activist, Md Kamrul Islam Faruki lodged the case against Sayem as he defamed and made derogatory remarks about the prime minister and Bangabandhu in a live video on Facebook, the RAB official added.
