Three children died in Mymensingh city in a tragic accidental drowning incident in the Brahmaputra River.
The deceased were identified as Ahad, 10, son of Ratan Miya, Sayem, 10, son of Nasir Miya, and Jayed, 10, son of Md Shahidul. The victims were all residents of the city's Sankipara area.
Some children from the area went swimming in the Brahmaputra River next to the Zainul Abedin Park in the city on Wednesday afternoon, said local fire service sources.
At that time, three children Ahad, Sayem and Jayed drowned after falling in quicksand at the bottom of the river.
When the other children screamed for help, locals recovered the bodies of Jayed and Sayem. Later, the fire service divers recovered Ahad's body.
Mujibur Rahman, leader of the Mymensingh Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Ahad's mother, a lamenting Jhumur Akhter told this correspondent that without telling anyone, the children had gone swimming in the river. "I cannot believe what just happened!"
