None of the 32 arrestees are members of Hefazat-e-Islam
Seven more cases have been filed in Brahmanbaria Sadar police station in connection to the violence that took place during last week’s general strike observed by Hefazat-e-Islam, making it a total of 48 cases filed in regard to the incident.
The cases have been filed on behalf of the police and aggrieved people.
Of the 48 cases, 42 are filed with Comilla Sadar Model police station, three in Ashuganj police station, two in Sharail police station and one in Akhaura Railway police station.
More than 30,000 people are accused in the cases. Among them, names of 137 members are mentioned in six cases. The rest of the accused are unnamed.
Police have already arrested 32 of the accused. However, none of the 32 arrestees are members of Hefazat-e-Islam.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), on April 4, arrested Arman Alif, 22, who vandalized Bangababandhu’’s mural on the day of the strike, from the Bishwa Road area of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila.
District Additional Police Superintendent Md Rois Uddin confirmed that 47 cases have been filed with several stations till now.
“Moreover, one more case has been filed by Government Railway Police (GRP),” said Akhaura police station Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Karim.
