The directive will be effective from Friday and continue till April 14
Chittagong district administration has announced to close all shops except pharmacies and kitchen markets by 6pm.
The announcement was made on Friday afternoon.
The decision which was taken after a record number of Covid-19 patients were identified in the district within 24 hours will be effective from Friday.
Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman confirmed the matter and said the executive magistrates of the district administration will be on the ground to monitor whether these instructions are being followed.
The directive would remain in force till April 14 and a new decision would be taken later depending on the situation of the pandemic, he added.
In the last 24 hours, Chittagong has recorded 518 Covid-19 cases -- highest of all time, while one person has died from the deadly virus, according to the latest report of the district civil surgeon's office.
