A fire broke out at a Gazipur yarn factory named Moni Fashion in the Kashimpur Sultan Market area of the city around 5:30pm on Saturday.
It took 5 fire-fighting units around 4 hours to bring the fire under control.
Although the exact extent of damage could not be known yet, the fire managed to burn to a pulp much of the fabrics stored in the factory and gutted most of the machines.
Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Md Abdul Hamid said: "Five units of Joydebpur and DBL fire service rushed to the spot upon receiving the news. We brought the fire under control after trying hard for almost four hours. It is not possible to know the exact source of fire without an investigation."
