Former Chhatra League leader’s right hand hacked off in Kurigram
A leader of the Bogra district unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, who was stabbed in a clash between two factions of the organization a few days ago, has succumbed to his injuries.
Takbir Islam Khan, 25, joint general secretary of the organization, breathed his last at 3pm on Tuesday at the intensive care unit of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
Dr Abdul Wadud Khan, the hospital’s deputy director, said Takbir died due to excessive bleeding after sustaining injuries in several parts of his body, including severe stab wounds to his posterior.
Meanwhile, Bogra Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir said: “The autopsy has been completed and the body has been handed over to the younger brother of the deceased, Toufik.”
Murder charges would be added to the case filed in connection with the attack, he stated.
At least eight people were injured in the skirmish which took place in the Shatmatha area of Bogra on Thursday.
According to sources, Takbir and Jahid Hasan, another member of the Chhatra League, became embroiled in an altercation after their motorcycles collided.
Later, General Secretary of the Govt Azizul Haque College unit of the Chhatra League Abdur Rauf and his followers sided with Jahid Hasan and another round of conflict ensued.
At one point, the two sides clashed when Rauf's supporters attacked Takbir and his men. At the time, Takbir was stabbed and several others were beaten up. Afterwards, Takbir was rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
On March 13, Takbir’s mother Afroza Islam filed a case over the attack accusing 42 people — seven named and 35 unnamed. Abdur Rauf was made the key accused in the suit.
