The bridge caved in when a hydraulic jack malfunctioned while girders were being installed on Sunday
Two separate probe bodies have been formed to investigate the collapse of an under-construction bridge across the Kondanala canal on the Sunamganj-Jagannathpur road.
The Ministry of Roads and Bridges formed a four-member committee while the design division of the Department of Roads and Highways formed a three-member probe body on Tuesday.
Zahirul Islam, executive engineer of Sunamganj Roads and Highways Department, said: "I have heard that a committee has been formed by the ministry to investigate the collapse of the bridge."
"We have asked the contractor to remove the collapsed girder and start work again," he said.
Meanwhile, the investigation committee formed by the design division of the Department of Roads and Highways has visited the spot of the accident.
On Sunday, the bridge caved in when a hydraulic jack malfunctioned while girders were being installed. As a result, five girders of the bridge were broken.
Construction work of the bridge has been going on for about two years now, with the contractor, MM Builders, given responsibility for building the bridge.
The estimated cost of building the bridge is about Tk70 lakh.
