Case filed over UP member’s murder inside govt office
A case has been filed over the murder of a union parishad (UP) member in Rangamati’ s Baghaichhari upazila.
On Wednesday, UP member and leader of JSS (MN Larma faction) Samar Bijoy Chakma was gunned down in broad daylight by a group of unknown assailants inside a room of the Upazila Parsihad offices.
As many as 18 people, including 10 activists of the JSS (Santu Larma faction), have been named in the case started by the victim’s brother Binoy Chakma late on Thursday.

Local leaders of JSS (Santu Larma faction) Manimoy Chakma and Boro Rishi Chakma have been named as the prime suspects in the case lodged with the Baghaichhari police station.
“At around 1pm on Wednesday, two armed assailants shot dead JSS MN Larma party leader and UP member Samar Bijoy Chakma in the room of the project implementation officer at the Upazila Parishad office,” said Sub-Inspector (SI) Sayeed Asad.
Soon after the killing, the JSS MN Larma faction’s local leader Josi Chakma claimed that the party’s Santu Larma faction was behind the killing.
Tridib Chakma, general secretary of the Baghachhari unit of JSS Santu Larma faction, denied the allegations.
