Police are yet to identify the people who broke the name plaque
Miscreants have broken down the name plaque of a road named after a Bir Pratik in Comilla.
The road from Madhaiya on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Comilla's Chandina upazila to Rahima Nagar in Chandpur was named after Bir Pratik Colonel Safiqullah.
Locals alleged that on Monday, miscreants smashed the nameplate of the road in the dark of the night.
Chandina police station OC Shamsuddin Mohammad Elias said a man named Shahin Shah has lodged a written complaint (GD) with the police station for breaking the nameplate of the road named after Bir Pratik Colonel Shafiqullah.
“We will investigate into the matter and find who was involved in this incident,” he said.
It is learned that Colonel Safiqullah, a freedom fighter who was awarded the title of Bir Pratik, took part in the great liberation war of 1971 responding to the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He fought against the Pakistani army with great bravery and liberated the country from the enemy. Later, the road from Madhaiya in Chandina upazila to Rahima Nagar in Chandpur was named after Colonel Safiq Ullah as an attribute to his heroism.
Madhaiya Union Chairman Md Ahid Ullah said miscreants broke the nameplate of Bir Pratik Colonel Safiqullah Road.
“I am going to the scene but I do not know who did this yet,” he added.
The family of Colonel Shafiqullah said they have appealed to the administration to take action against such heinous incidents after a proper investigation.
