Police apprehended the truck driver responsible
Two motorcyclists were killed on Saturday when a truck crashed head-on with them on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Rangpur on Friday.
The deceased were identified as driver of the motorcycle Shimul, 28, of Najirdigar Pashchimpara area and his co-rider, Sohel Rana, 30, of Najirdigar Dakshinpara area of Rangpur.
The accident took place at Barowalia point near Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in Mithapukur upazila around 3:30pm, said police.
A stone-laden truck coming from the opposite direction ran over two motorcycles, Md Akhteruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Tazhat Thana of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) said quoting a witness.
Both the driver of the motorcycle and his friend and co-rider were killed on the spot.
Police have apprehended the truck driver, Ansar Ali, of Purbo Chuhor village in nearby Mithapukur upazila.
Upon getting the news, Tazhat police rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies, and seized the truck.
“Police sent the bodies to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy,” the OC said, adding that a case was filed in this connection with Tazhat police.
