It took six firefighting units nearly five hours to bring the flames under control
A massive fire broke out at the Urea Fertilizer Factory in Narsingdi on Friday reportedly due to a gas pipeline leakage during construction works.
Flame erupted at the factory at Gorahsal in the district’s Palash upazila around 12pm, according to the fire service.
Soon after the incident, six firefighting units rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control after nearly five hours.
No casualties were reported, Deputy Assistant Director Nurul Islam of the Narsingdi Fire Service told Dhaka Tribune.
According to him, a gas pipeline leakage may have caused the fire.
“The authorities told us that the flames erupted during when a piling rig was being operated for the construction of a new building at the factory premises,” said Islam.
The amount of damage caused by fire can be determined after an investigation, he added.
