2 arrested in connection with abducting, gang-raping teenager

The abductors took the 15-year-old to a local labour leader as a gift

Police have arrested two youths in connection with gang-raping a 15 years old and taking her to a labour leader as a gift in Eidgaon union of Cox's Bazar. 

They were arrested on Friday night after they abducted the girl on Thursday. A case was filed in the incident at Eidgaon police station on Saturday.

The arrested are labour leader and General Secretary of Eidgaon Microbus Drivers Association Jafar Alam alias Khorshed, 55, of Khodaibari village in Islamabad union of Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila and microbus driver Ahmad Ullah, 26, of Aoliabad era in Islamabad union.

The other accused in the case are Jalal alias Tukkuia, 19, of Uttor Meherghona area of ward 4 of Eidgah Union and Zafar Alam, 40, of Khodaibari area of Islamabad union.

The survivor hails from South Suturia area of Dhalghata union of Moheshkhali upazila.

According to several local sources, on Thursday afternoon, the victim left home to attend the friend's younger brother's birthday party from a nearby area.

On the way there, when she reached in front of a local laundry shop in Dhalghat area, a white microbus stopped in front of her, three men got out and forced her into the vehicle.

When she tried to shout, they taped her mouth shut.

According to locals, on the day of the incident, the abductors brought the girl to the microbus stand at Bahaddar Hat in Chittagong. 

At that time, the three abductors tied her hands and feet and raped her on the back seat of the microbus. The next night (Friday), the girl was brought to the Eidgaon Farid Ahmed College on the same microbus.

There they raped her again.

According to the case statement: “On Friday night the abductors informed labour leader Jafar Alam alias Khorshed that they abducted a girl.

“Later that night, Khorshed along with the others took the girl to the office of the Local Microbus Drivers' Association on the second floor of Mumtaz Market on DC Road in Eidgaon Bazar. They tried to force her into another room on the second floor of the market when the girl started screaming. The guards on duty at the market heard her.”

When the guards arrived at the spot all except Khorshed fled. Police later arrested him.

When asked, Eidgaon police station OC Abdul Halim said, the girl along with the accused were brought to Eidgaon police station. 

The survivor was later taken to the One Stop-Crisis Centre (OCC) of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment and examination. After treatment, the girl had been sent to a safe home of a private organization in Cox's Bazar city.

The OC said that on Saturday evening, the teenager’s maternal grandfather filed a complaint with the Eidgaon police station accusing four people. Ahmed Ullah, the driver of the microbus, was also arrested in a raid.
