According to the EC, 22.49% of voters exercised their franchise at this year’s CCC polls

Update : 28 Jan 2021, 06:26 PM

No BNP or Jamaat-e-Islami-backed councillor candidate was able to secure victory in the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) elections held on Wednesday. The elections saw massive anomalies and violence.

All the 55 winning candidates in the councilor posts – for a total of 41 general and 14 reserved CCC wards – are from the ruling Awami League and include the party’s rebel candidates.

In the last CCC polls, held in 2015, about nine councillor candidates backed by the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami had won.

In Wednesday’s city elections, out of the 55 general and reserved councillor posts, the candidate for Ward No 18 won the polls unopposed.

No election was held in Ward No 31 due to the death of a candidate.

According to the Election Commission (EC), 22.49% of voters exercised their franchise at this year’s CCC polls.
