The 25 years old was killed amid a clash between two opposing Rohingya groups in the camp
A Rohingya youth was killed in a shootout between two groups at the Palongkhali Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Jabed, 25, a resident of block D/4 of Tanjimarakhola Rohingya refugee camp in Palongkhali union of Ukhiya upazila.
The incident took place in block D/8 of Tanjimarakhola Rohingya refugee camp in Palongkhali union of the upazila around 3am on Monday.
Cox's Bazar 16 Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Commander Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tariqul Islam Tariq said, 10-12 armed members of the Rohingya refugee camp led by Rohingya terrorists Mozammel alias Sheikh and Maulvi Yunus were crossing the road in block D/8 on Monday night.
Another terrorist group, led by Nurul Hakim alias Manuia, blocked their way and barred them from roaming the area around the Rohingya camp at night. The two sides clashed at one stage.
There was exchange of three-four rounds of fire between the two sides.
At that time, Mohammad Jabed, a resident of the D/4 block of the Rohingya refugee camp, was shot at by both sides. He was later rescued and taken to a Rohingya refugee camp health centre, where the on-duty doctor declared Jabed dead.
Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tariqul Islam Tariq said the body of the slain Rohingya was recovered and taken to the Camp's in-charge (CIC) office. The body is being sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy and a case is under process.
