Rajshahi police on Monday arrested a man for allegedly extorting Tk3 lakh from his former girlfriend by threatening to circulate her private photos.
The arrestee was identified as Harunur Rashid, 30, son of Shahjahan Pramanik from Namkan area of Bagmara police station, confirmed Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique at a press conference on Tuesday.
The victim Josna Khatun (pseudonym) filed a case under the Pornography Control Act, 2012, with Boalia police station on Monday.
Subsequently, Boalia police arrested Harun and seized his mobile phone the same day.
According to the complaint, Josna was once in a relationship with the accused Harun but as they did not get along much, they broke up. During the course of their relationship, Harun had captured a number of Josna’s private photos, which he secretly kept even after their break up.
On January 11, Josna came to know that Harun sent those photos to a number of acquaintances and wanted Tk3 lakh from Josna if she wanted her private photos to disappear.
