5 injured as criminals attack police in Pirojpur

At least five police members were injured when a group of criminals launched an attack on them at Kumarkhali area of Pirojpur on Sunday night.

The injured police members are Pirojpur Sadar Police Sub-Inspector Saikat Hossain Sunny, Sub-Inspector Mahmudul Hasan, Assistant Sub-Inspector Khairul Hossain, Assistant Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam and Constable Maruf Hawladar.

Of the injured, two have been admitted to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident to Dhaka Tribune, Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Nurul Islam Badal that police arrested one person, Hasan Sikder, from Kumarkhali area around 2pm on Sunday in connection with the theft of CCTV cameras from Pirojpur Sadar Hospital a few days ago.

“However, when police was taking arrestee to the police station, his accomplices attacked the police pickup van in a bid to snatch him away,” he added.

During the attack, five policemen were injured and the pickup van was damaged. 

Later, police held eight people, including Hasan, in a case filed over the incident.
