On Saturday, journalist Aminul Islam was attacked over a land dispute
Police have arrested the main accused Mokhlesur Rahman who reportedly attacked a local journalist, Aminul Islam, over a land dispute in Fulbari, Kurigram.
Fulbari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarwar Parvez confirmed the matter and said Mokhles was arrested on Sunday afternoon and was under police custody.
On January 23, journalist Aminul Islam was attacked over a land dispute. In critical condition, locals rescued him and admitted him to the upazila health complex.
Aminul Islam is working as the Fulbari upazila representative of daily Bangladesh Pratidin. He is also a senior teacher at Fulbari JM Model Government High School.
Injured journalist Aminul Islam, who is currently under treatment at the hospital, said: "I lodged a complaint against Mokhlesur at the police station a few days ago due to a dispute over a piece of land."
“They could not show any documents of that land. For this reason, they became furious at me and beat me with a steel rod, broke my head, and seriously injured me. I have appealed to the police station for a fair trial,” he added.
However, denying the allegation of the attack on Aminul, Mokhlesur Rahman told a correspondent on Saturday evening that it was not an attack but a clash between the two sides over the land.
“Several people on both sides were injured,” he claimed.
Inspector (investigation) Sarwar Parvez said that the main accused in the case, Mokhlesur, has been arrested. He will be produced before a court on Monday morning.
