Police arrest three, one on the run
At least three underage girls and a woman have been raped and sexually harassed in three districts of the country.
In Gazipur, police arrested 45-year-old Awlad Hossain for allegedly raping one of his employees.
The accused was arrested on Saturday after the survivor filed a case on Friday.
According to case details, Awlad raped the victim on multiple occasions.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Sunday, Konabari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Siddique said: “The survivor was again raped on Friday at the accused’s office in Joydebpur’s Ronu Super Market.
“Awlad has already been sent to jail following a court order on Sunday. The investigation is ongoing over the matter,” the OC added.
In Narayanganj, two underage girls – a 10-year-old and a 15-year-old – were sexually assaulted and raped on Saturday and January 18, respectively.
Both the incidents occurred in the district’s Siddhirganj upazila.
When contacted, Siddhirganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mashiur Rahman said: “We arrested Moshharaf Hossain, 51, on Sunday for attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl following a case filed by the survivor’s father on Saturday.
“In a separate incident, a 15-year-old girl was raped for refusing a love proposal on January 18. The rape survivor’s father filed a case with us on Saturday night. We are conducting drives to arrest the accused, 20-year-old Md Sajib of Bow Bazar area, Siddhirganj,” the OC added.
In Jessore, police detained a 15-year-old boy for raping a six-year-old girl.
The incident occurred inside an under-construction building in Rampur village of the district on Saturday.
“A case has been filed over the incident. The accused has been detained,” said Badrul Alam Khan, OC of Sharsha police station.
