The tiger skin would have been sold for Tk13 lakh
RAB and the Forest Department have jointly arrested a poacher along with tiger skin in Sarankhola, Bagerhat.
Gaus Fakir, 52, was arrested from Jalil Bridge area of Rajoir village in Sarankhola Sadar upazila around 8:15pm on Tuesday.
The recovered tiger skin and the poacher were taken to the RAB-8 office that night.
The arrested Gaus is the son of Rashid Fakir of Sonatola village adjacent to the Sundarbans in the Sadar upazila.
According to the Forest Department, the forest rangers of Sarankhola Range have been following the poacher for the last four days on the basis of secret information.
After that, the forest rangers set up a trap by contacting Gaus through a source and agreeing to buy the tiger skin for Tk13 lakh.

Gaus Fakir, a tiger hunter, fell into that trap. At one stage, when he said that he would bring the tiger skin to them, a team of forest rangers led by the Sarankhola range officer and a team of RAB-8 went to the location prior to the meeting.
When the range officer appeared with Tk13 lakh, Gauss Fakir also appeared with the tiger skin. At that time, the joint forces were able to surround him from all sides and arrest him along with the hide.
Range Officer of Sundarbans East Forest Department in Sarankhola, Md Joynal Abedin confirmed the incident and said that a joint briefing of RAB and the Forest Department will be held on Wednesday. No more information can be disclosed at the moment.
