President Abdul Hamid on Sunday suggested the Dhaka University authority prepare a roadmap to overcome the session jam caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin said that the president came up with the idea when a Dhaka University delegation led by its Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.
Hamid also asked to formulate a Standard Operating Policy (SOP) in this regard.
Mentioning the significant role of DU in different crucial moments, he said DU is the birthplace of higher education in Bangladesh and has a unique role in every democratic movement and struggle of Bangladesh, including the 1952 Language Movement and War of Liberation.
During the meeting, the DU VC apprised the chancellor of the overall activities of the university, including the online education activities during the Covid-19 period as well as the activities undertaken on the occasion of the centenary of the university.
The VC said the DU authority has taken a step to reduce the duration of various examinations in the prevailing situation.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman also informed that the admission tests for the first-year honours students will be held in every divisional town, to ease the sufferings of the admission-seekers.
Inviting the president, also chancellor of the university, to be the chief guest at the inaugural function of the university's centenary celebrations on July 1, 2021, the VC told the president that a centenary monument would be erected highlighting DU’s 100-year history and 300 basic studies would be published on the occasion also.
The delegation sought all necessary directives and cooperation to run the university's activities in a smooth manner.
He assured the DU delegation of providing all-out support in running the university activities.
Secretary concerned to the Bangabhaban was present on the occasion.
