PIO Sharif Mohammad Rubel was closed on Sunday following an order from the Ministry of Relief and Rehabilitation
A project implementation officer (PIO) of Jessore's Abhaynagar upazila has been closed on charges of sexually harassing a female colleague at the local administration.
PIO Sharif Mohammad Rubel was closed on Sunday following an order from the Ministry of Relief and Rehabilitation.
The district administration said it is investigating allegations against Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nazmul Hussain Khan on the same charges as well.
According to the complaint, UNO Nazmul made an illicit offer to a female colleague in the Abhaynagar upazila administration through the PIO.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Shammi Islam has been assigned to investigate the matter.
On December 22, the victim lodged a written complaint with the Director General of the Department of Information and Communication Technology regarding sexual harassment and death threats at work. One day after the complaint, she was transferred out of Jessore.
Denying allegations of his involvement, Abhaynagar UNO Nazmul Hussain Khan said the Disaster Management Department closed PIO Sharif on Monday.
"The authorities are investigating the incident. I have no connection to the allegations against the PIO. Personally, I have never misbehaved with that officer,” added the UNO.
In her complaint, the victim said she had encountered abusive and derogatory comments from the UNO since she joined the office in March.
She said: “They used to make me work till night regularly, against my normal schedule of work. At one point, the UNO made an illicit proposal via the PIO.”
