Nails were driven into Firoz's feet with a hammer while Jasim was beaten with an iron rod and hammer
Two youths were tortured overnight in barbaric manner on Sunday, with a nail being driven into one of the victim's legs, by a group of villagers at Debipur village in Tanore upazila of Rajshhai.
The victims were identified as Feroz Kabir, 24, son of Ishaq Ali and Jasim Uddin, 28, son of Amjad Ali.
According to police sources, nails were driven into Feroz's feet with a hammer while Jasim was beaten with an iron rod and a hammer.
Their motorcycle was also vandalized.
According to eyewitnesses and complaint sources, the two men went to attend a function in their cousin's house on Sunday around 9 pm by a motorcycle.
A group of villagers led by Mamun and Rahim attacked them as they came out of the house at about 9 pm and accused them of being thieves.
At one stage, they tied them up with rope and tortured them brutally overnight.
Feroz's uncle Kamal Hossain said that Mamunur Rashid, a member of local ward No-8, went and beat them up at night.
The attackers asked them to confess that they were thieves and when they refused, the assailants hammered a nail into Feroz's right leg, Kamal Hossain said, quoting Feroz.
Later on Monday afternoon, local UP Chairman Abul Kashem called on Feroz’s mother and sister and handed over the two men to them.
The family members then took them to RMCH.
Mamun and Rahim had earlier enmity with Feroz, Kamal said.
He said Feroz had a salon at Debipur village. He had removed the salon from the village as he developed an enmity with Rahim.
Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tanore Police Station, said Ishaq Ali, father of Feroz, lodged a complaint with the police against seven people on Tuesday night.
Abul Kashem could not be reached when contacted for comments as his phone was turned off.
