Fire kills child, burns down 9 shops in Comilla

It is speculated that the fire started in a mattress shop

An 11-year-old boy named Md Arafat has been burned to death while trying to put out a fire in Comilla.

Nine shops, including a mattress shop, were damaged in the blaze. The fire broke out at Chanpur Baubazar in Comilla town on Tuesday. 

Four units of Comilla Fire Service worked to bring the fire under control. 

Deceased Arafat was the son of Barek Miah of Chanpur Gauchia Mosque area.

Comilla Fire Service and Assistant Director of Civil Defense, Md Jasim Uddin, confirmed the death of the child and said that the fire started from the mattress shop. 

The mattress shop was burnt to ashes in that fire. At the same time, eight more shops including a shoe store, a mobile shop, a departmental store, and a cosmetics shop were damaged in the fire.

He added that goods worth around Tk2 lakh were burnt in the fire. At the same time, members of the Fire Service have saved another Tk20 lakh worth of goods from the fire.

Assistant Director of Fire Service Md Jasim Uddin said that Arafat came to put out the fire in the market. The child caught fire as he did not take any precautions and died on the spot even before being taken to the hospital.
