A total of 320 people have succumbed to the deadly virus so far
With the advent of winter, Chittagong has been witnessing a sharp rise in the number of infections from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
According to the information provided by the Chittagong Civil Surgeon office, the district has so far logged a total of 26,263 cases of Covid-19.
Of them, 19,923 patients are from the metropolitan area while the remaining 6,340 are from different upazilas of the district.
As of December 5, a total of 320 people have succumbed to the deadly viral disease and some 24,218 people have recovered from the deadly viral disease.
Of them, 3,656 people recovered while undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the district while 20,653 have recovered in home isolation.
The public health specialists apprehend that the spike in the number of infections is a prelude to the second wave.
Meanwhile, Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi warned people of the possible second wave of Covid-19 in the winter.
Urging people to abide by the health guidelines particularly wearing protective masks, the Civil Surgeon said that all have to be very careful from now on about the possible second wave.
“All must wear face masks to remain protected from the highly infectious disease,” the Civil Surgeon added.
“Most of the recovered patients have received treatment staying at home. Therefore, one must consult a doctor immediately after developing the symptom of Covid-19. Besides, people should get them tested and keep them isolated until getting the positive report ,” the Civil Surgeon said.
According to the physicians, the number of infections has risen and the tendency of getting tested among the people has spiked as well.
At the beginning of November and at the end of October, the number of daily infections was below 100 in Chittagong.
