After travelling about five kilometers from there, the cow suddenly started mooing on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, drawing the attention of locals
Locals caught a member of a cow theft syndicate on Friday while he was fleeing from Brahmanbaria’s Sadar upazila after cramming the poor creature into a private car.
The detainee Faruk Miah, 40, a resident of Habiganj’s Lakhai upazila was handed over to police after he was caught at Kutrapara area on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at around 11am.
Confirming the matter, Khatihata Highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbubur Rahman said four members of a cow theft syndicate forced a cow into a private car from a brickfield at Nandan BSCIC of Sadar upazila at around 11am and fled from the area.
After travelling about five kilometers from there, the cow suddenly started mooing on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, drawing the attention of locals.
Sensing something fishy was going on, locals intercepted the car and informed the Highway police which detained Faruk Miah with the car and the cow. Meanwhile, three other thieves managed to flee the scene.
Later, the highway police handed over Faruk, along with the car and cow to Sadar police station. Legal action will be taken in this regard, said OC Mahbubur Rahman.
The incident has turned the heads of many locals. Shafiqur Rahman, a resident of Kutrapara area, said: “I have seen many types of theft. But for the first time in my life, I saw the stealing of a cow in a private car today.”
