A passenger, who was shot in the abdomen, is in critical condition
An armed gang of robbers robbed a Soudia Paribahan bus at Chakaria on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Highway early Friday.
The robbers, who boarded the bus acting as passengers, shot two passengers and injured 15 others by beating them.
The two bullet-hit people were rushed to Ramu Upazila Health Complex and later to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.
Abdullah Al Mamun, 27, who was shot directly in the abdomen, is in a critical condition and would be taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Meanwhile, Rakib Uddin, 30, was shot in the hand by the robbers.
According to passengers of the bus, the armed robbers took hostages at gunpoint and looted large sums of cash, at least 20 mobile phones and gold ornaments from 4 women passengers.
The robbery took place at around 3:30am on Friday. Other than the seven robbers, there were 37 passengers on the bus. Some of these passengers were businessmen, some were tourists, while others were job holders.
Billal Hossain, 26, a passenger of the bus, filed a case in this connection with Chakaria police station.
Chakaria police station Sub-Inspector Nure Khoda Siddiki, also the investigation officer of the case, said the amount of money, jewelleries and the number of mobile phones lost can be ascertained after a detailed investigation.
Asked about the case, Md Ashraf Hossain, inspector of the police station, said: “Three people concerned with the bus are being questioned to find out the details of the incident. The bus in question was also seized.”
