At least four workers have sustained burn injuries and machinery worth crores has been gutted in a fire that broke out at a jute factory in Khulna.
The fire broke out at Dighalia upazila’s Zaman Jute Mills Corporation on Sunday afternoon around 12pm.
The burn victims were identified as Aslam, Rabiul, Akash and Helena. Among them, Aslam is in critical condition and he has been transferred to Dhaka for better treatment.
The fire started around 12pm, when a Hard Waste machine of the factory malfunctioned and engulfed the whole establishment in flames, said Ahsan Ullah, officer-in-charge of Dighalia police station.
Four units of Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed in and brought the fire under control after an hour-and-a-half of frantic effort.
Jute, goods and machinery worth Tk2.5 crore have been lost to the fire, the OC added.
