Shamim Hawlader was stabbed twice in the abdomen and thrice in his chest
River police have recovered the body of a youth from the roof of a launch after it arrived in Barisal from Dhaka.
The body of Shamim Hawladedr, 22, was found on MV Sundarban-11 at the Barisal Launch Terminal around 6:30am Tuesday, according to witnesses and police.
He was from Jhalakathi's Nalchity upazila and used to work at a readymade garment factory in Narayanganj. He boarded the launch on Monday evening to go home on vacation.
The launch started from Dhaka at around 9pm and reached Barisal around 4:30am.
The launch’s Supervisor Md Siraj said the vessel was being cleaned for the next trip when the body was found by launch staff a couple of hours after it docked at the terminal.
Barisal river police OC Abdullah Al Mamun said they recovered the body after being contacted, conducted an inquest and sent it to the local hospital morgue for an autopsy.
“The youth was stabbed twice in the abdomen and thrice in his chest. Most probably he was murdered in the early hours.”
“We are moving forward with necessary legal protocol,” he said.
Barisal River Port official Mostafizur Rahman said they would help the authorities in unravelling the mystery by providing the footage of the CCTV cameras in the vicinity.
