Teenager arrested over rape attempt on child

A 16-year-old teenage boy has been arrested in a case filed over attempting to rape a five-year-old girl in Harirampur upazila of Manikganj.

The victim's father sued the arrestee, who is a neighbour, on Friday. Subsequently, Harirampur police picked him up around 9pm that night.

In the case statement, the father, who stays in Dhaka for work, claimed that the teenage boy, who often visited their house, touched his daughter inappropriately and attempted to rape her on November 8. 

As the child started crying, the accused threatened her to keep quiet and left the scene. However, the child immediately disclosed the matter to her mother and elder sister in the next room. Informed, the girl’s father arrived home from Dhaka Friday and filed the case against the teen boy, the statement said.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Harirampur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Muyeed Chowdhury said: “A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to a case filed against him for attempting to rape a five-year-old girl.”
