Prisoner found dead in Barisal jail

A prisoner of Barisal Central Jail was found dead in one of the jail’s bathrooms early Saturday.

The deceased identified as Hanif Khalifa, 40, was sent to jail over a case filed against him for raping his speech-impaired daughter.

Prison authorities say the accused hung himself by a rope, made out of a mosquito net late Friday night.

Proshanto Kumar Banik, superintendent of Barisal Central Jail, said on October 1, Hanif was sent to jail in a case filed by his wife for raping their speech-impaired daughter.

“Hanif was taken out of the jail for a DNA test few days ago. Afterwards, he was brought back and placed in quarantine in his jail cell,” he added.

The body has been sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy, he also added.
