The deceased is a 50-year-old man, Md Mehedi Hasan
A man was killed on Thursday night in a dispute that reportedly occurred over Tk1,500 of unpaid house rent in Naluapara area of Narayanganj.
The deceased has been identified as Md Mehedi Hasan, 50, father of Al Amin, who, according to his family, had failed to pay Tk1,500, out of last month's Tk3,000 house rent.
Md Rana, the house owner, demanded chicken from Mehedi's shop, as Mehedi's son Al Amin failed to pay full house rent.
On Thursday night, Rana began beating Al Amin when an argument broke out over these matters. Subsequently Rana called Mehedi at the spot when he was also beaten with a stick, according to the victim’s family.
Afterwards, Mehedi was declared dead by the on-duty doctor of Narayanganj General Hospital when taken there in critical condition.
The deceased's wife, while in tears, said: "A few days ago Rana already took four chickens from my husband's shop without paying. My husband refused last time because of this. I don't know what has happened when my husband was called to Rana's house, but I want justice for his murder."
After the incident locals demonstrated for a brief period on the streets demanding that Rana was brought to book and alleged that he and his family is involved with Narcotics trade.
Confirming the death, Narayanganj Sadar Model police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Ilias Zaman said filing of a case in this regard is under process.
