Police primarily suspect that the attack was carried out by members of a hill gang over establishing dominance in the region
Two people have been killed in a reported act of gang violence in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati.
The deceased have been identified as Subhash Tanchangya, 45, of Rajasthali upazila and Dhananjay Tanchangya, 32, of Gorjonia Para. Locals say the victims were supporters of Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS), an ethnic, community-based political party.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Kaptai police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasir Uddin said unidentified armed terrorists attacked Dhananjay’s home in Gorjonia of Wagga union around 3am Wednesday.
“Armed gang members broke into Dhananjay’s home and shot him five times. The criminals also shot Subhash twice, who was staying over at Dhananjay’s, before fleeing the scene.”
The victims died on the spot, added the police officer.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Kaptai Circle) Junayet Kausar said police primarily suspected that the attack was carried out by members of a hill gang over establishing dominance in the region.
Informed, ASP Junaid Kausar and Kaptai OC Nasir Uddin along with Kaptai police recovered the bodies and took them to Rangamati Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
