Youth commits suicide over 'failed' love relationship

Apparently upset over a failed love relationship, a youth allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday night by hanging himself at his home in Alampur aera of South Surma upazila in the district, according to police and family members.

Alhaj Uddin, 20, son of Liakat Ali of Dargabaharpur village in Zakiganj upazila, was found dead in his room, said Sahabul Islam, officer-in-charge of Moglabazar police station.

Messages found on his Facebook indicated that a failed relationship had led him into taking the step, Sahabul Islam added.

Before committing suicide, he posted a picture on his Facebook. The post said he was in love with a girl but had been deceived.

The account cannot be found on his Facebook now, but screenshots of his post have been found in various groups.

Afzal Hossain, uncle of Alhaj Uddin, said his mother and sister were at home at night. After taking tea, he told them that he was going to his room. Then he locked the door and started singing. The family members did not suspect anything about the incident that was soon to take place.

Later, they found him hanging from the ceiling fan and informed police.

A case of unnatural death has been registered with the police station, the OC said.
